Punjab IT minister urges SBP to reverse its resolution to droop DCB mechanism

LAHORE – Punjab Info Expertise (IT) Minister Dr. Arslan Khalid has urged the State Financial institution of Pakistan (SBP) to revisit its resolution to revoke the fee of $34 Million to worldwide service suppliers.

In a press release on Saturday, Dr. Arslan Khalid said that the Pakistan’s IT business has super potential to extend our exports, contribute to financial development, create employment alternatives, earn overseas change and catapult Pakistan to the forefront of the world. SBP’s resolution might be a critical blow to the nascent IT business already struggling to take off. That is more likely to jeopardise the long run prospects of IT in Pakistan and the injury perhaps devastating and long run.

“If SBP’s decision to revoke the $34 Million payment to international service providers isn’t revised, the international companies will put Pakistan off their radars in making IT investments in Pakistan leading to job loss and a severe trust deficit that will take a very long time to heal ,” said the minister.

“Pakistan is struggling to embrace IT as part of the vision of Digital Pakistan and the IT sector will be needing tremendous support from all the stakeholders especially the State to allow it to benefit all the social and economic sectors,” Dr Arslan Khalid maintained.

The IT minister additional added that the non-payment of excellent dues to the most important service suppliers will critically affect the customers in Pakistan as they are going to be unable to entry digital banking, e-Commerce, e-Schooling, e-Well being and many others which shall be an enormous blow to the e-Governance.

“In this age of social media, any outage of digital services in the country would tarnish the image of Pakistan on the international level, hence such a situation must be avoided at all costs,” Dr Arslan Khalid added.

It’s pertinent to say right here that the State Financial institution of Pakistan (SBP) has suspended the Direct Provider Billing (DCB) mechanism, attributable to which the annual fee of $34 Million from cell corporations to the worldwide service suppliers stays suspended.
