ANKARA: Turkey on Friday rejected as a “smear” marketing campaign claims by Twitter that hundreds of pretend profiles had been set as much as enhance help for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Twitter mentioned greater than 7,300 accounts had been detected in early 2020 with the first intention of propping up Erdogan and his ruling occasion — all of which have since been deleted.
They had been amongst over 32,000 accounts eliminated by Twitter which mentioned they had been utilized by China, Russia and Turkey for propaganda, to sow misinformation or assault critics.
“The company’s allegations that those accounts were ‘fake’ profiles designed to support the President and that they were single-handedly managed by a central authority are untrue,” Erdogan’s communications director Fahrettin Altun mentioned on Twitter.
He mentioned the “attempt to smear the Government of Turkey and a popular political movement are unacceptable”.
