‘We are all aviators’ – Australian air power replaces phrase ‘airmen’ to finish sexism

In a transfer to embrace range amongst its ranks, the Royal Australian Air Power has changed time period airmen with aviators as its marks a century since its institution.

Australia’s Chief of Air Power, Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld, made announcement about dropped the gendered phrase at a at a non-public dinner of previous and current RAAF members.

“Of all the work that has been done in developing our Air Force culture, the most challenging dilemma has been fully explaining who we are,” Air Marshal Hupfeld stated in a press release on Thursday afternoon. 

“We understand well enough what we are and what we do – but have never quite managed to successfully articulate WHO we are. We are ALL aviators.”

Girls make up greater than 20% of the almost 15,000 personnel within the air power, worldwide media reported citing a report from 2019.
